Diabetes is a debilitating disease.
It robs those afflicted of their sight. It causes poor circulation sometimes resulting in amputations of the feet and legs. And ultimately it costs countless thousands their lives. The U.S. Surgeon General says that an estimated 300,000 deathsper year may be attributable to obesity. Overweight and obesity are closely linked to type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Robert O. Young, a scientist and microbiologist, sent shockwaves through the medical community when his published report pinpointed the cause of diabetes. Young was collaborating his research with Johns Hopkins Medical School, But chances are that if you are being treated for diabetes, your physician hasn't mentioned this.
The overwhelming majority of diabetics have been told that diabetes has no cure—based on the premise that the cause is u
nknown. Yes, Dr. Young's discovery sent shockwaves—but for the most part the shock was that a multi-billion dollar industry was delivered a wakeup call.
For as long as human beings walked this planet, the immune system it was equipped with has kept it healthy. The body and all of its related functions evolved to the point that when alien microbes invaded its space, the immune system destroyed them.
But as man evolved, so did his diet. Researchers studying why people in under-developed countries contract fewer disease than we in the Western world fall victim to. The outcome of this research was simply that western peoples developed a diet that has been smothering the immune system generation after generation.
It began with the Industrial Revolution, when manufacturers began offering prepared, pre-packaged foods and a new genre of things to drink. The western diet leaned toward the carbohydrate side. So we began consuming more sugar and starches, which are converted into sugar during the digestive process.
